CPR & AED Awareness Week

Every year, from June 1 to 7, the nation observes CPR & AED Awareness Week, emphasizing the critical importance of immediate response during cardiac emergencies. Established in 2007 through a collaboration between the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, and the National Safety Council, this week serves as a reminder that timely intervention can significantly increase survival rates during sudden cardiac arrests.

Why this week matters?

Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States, with over 350,000 cases occurring outside hospitals annually. Alarmingly, about 70% of these incidents happen at home, underscoring the importance of equipping everyday individuals with the knowledge and confidence to act swiftly. Immediate CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.

The importance of hands-on training

While understanding the basics of CPR is beneficial, mastering the technique requires practical experience. Hands-on training sessions provide participants with the opportunity to practice chest compressions and AED usage under professional supervision, ensuring they can respond effectively during real-life emergencies.
